Listening Check App Privacy Policy

This policy covers Listening Check, the iOS app published by SparkMinds, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“SparkMinds”, “we”).

The short version

Everything you enter in Listening Check stays on your iPhone. SparkMinds doesn't receive it, can't see it and never sells it. The app doesn't use the microphone, camera or your location, and it has no analytics and no tracking.

Where your data lives

The app stores your data on your iPhone. This version has no account, no cloud sync and no SparkMinds server: what you enter is never sent to us or to anyone else.

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, those backups include the app's data, as they do for most apps. Apple handles those backups under your own backup settings, not SparkMinds.

What the app stores on your phone

  • Your child's name or nickname, and your name as the caregiver
  • Your child's age band and birth month and year
  • Your child's hearing technology for each ear: the type, details, start date and daily wear hours
  • A history of changes to that hearing technology, with any notes you add
  • Your listening check sessions and results: the sounds checked, your child's responses, the conditions, and any quick tags you add (such as “noisy room” or “child tired”)
  • Your progress through the Learn section
  • Your reminder settings
  • Whether you're on a trial or have bought the app

What the app never uses or collects

  • The microphone. The app doesn't use it at all.
  • The camera or your photos
  • Your location
  • Your contacts or calendars
  • Advertising identifiers or other device identifiers
  • Analytics or usage tracking
  • Crash reports sent to SparkMinds
  • Face, fingerprint or other biometric data

Purchases

Listening Check is a one-time in-app purchase, handled entirely by Apple. SparkMinds never sees your payment details. Apple may share aggregate sales information with us.

Reminders

Reminders are notifications your iPhone schedules for itself. They don't pass through any SparkMinds server. You can change them in the app or turn them off in your iPhone's Settings.

Sharing reports

You can export a PDF report, for example to show your child's audiologist. It's shared only when you choose to, with whoever you pick, using your iPhone's share options. Once you've sent it, the person or app you shared it with looks after that copy.

Deleting your data

To delete a child's profile, go to the Profile tab, open the child's profile, tap Update and then Delete Profile. The profile and its sessions disappear from the app.

The app needs at least one profile, so the last remaining profile can't be deleted this way. To erase all of the app's data from your phone, delete the Listening Check app. Copies inside your iPhone backups follow your Apple backup settings.

Children

Listening Check is used by parents and caregivers on behalf of their children, including children under 13. The information about a child stays on the caregiver's phone, and SparkMinds doesn't receive it. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you email us

If you write to us about the app (for example at privacy@sparkminds.co), we receive your email address and whatever you put in your message. We use them only to reply to you, and we'll delete them if you ask.

Changes to this policy

If a future version adds optional accounts or backup to SparkMinds, we'll update this page before that version is released, and nothing will leave your phone unless you choose to turn it on. For any other change, we'll update this page and the date at the top.

For how SparkMinds handles information more broadly, see our privacy overview.

Your rights

Because SparkMinds never receives the data you enter in the app, we hold none of it to show you, correct or delete; you can do all of that directly in the app. The rights below cover anything else we hold about you, such as an email you've sent us.

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you and ask us to fix or delete it. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or California's privacy laws), you may also have these rights:

  • Access: get a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: have us fix information that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Deletion: have us delete your personal information.
  • Restriction: ask us to pause using your information while we sort out a concern, for example if you've told us it's inaccurate.
  • Portability: receive your information in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection: object to uses of your information based on our legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent: where we rely on your consent (analytics, guidance emails, the details you shared about your child), you can withdraw it at any time. That doesn't undo anything we did before you withdrew it.
  • California: we don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal. We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.
  • Complain to a regulator: if you're in the EEA or UK, you can complain to your local data protection authority. The European Data Protection Board lists them at edpb.europa.eu; in the UK it's the ICO at ico.org.uk. We'd be grateful for the chance to put things right first.

To use any of these rights, write to privacy@sparkminds.co. We may ask for a detail or two to confirm it's really you. We'll reply within 30 days, and it's free unless a request is clearly excessive or repeated. We don't make decisions about you by fully automated means.
