SparkMinds is a personalized daily guidance platform for families of children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and use hearing aids or cochlear implants. It turns everyday interactions, meals, play, car rides, and bedtime stories, into structured listening, spoken language, and early cognitive development, grounded in the science of the early language years. Created by Dr. Uma Soman, a globally recognized listening and spoken language specialist, SparkMinds reinforces the work of clinicians and therapists between appointments rather than replacing it. The company is onboarding its first Founding Families ahead of launch.

Dr. Uma Gokhale Soman

Uma holds a PhD in Hearing and Speech Sciences from Vanderbilt University and is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVEd.). She has taught over 100 DHH children since 2003 as a teacher of the deaf, Listening and Spoken Language Intervention to graduate students across the US, and presented internationally on related topics. In 2017 she founded the nonprofit Listening Together, which has trained more than 250 professionals across 11 countries. She was seven when her younger sister was diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss. The fifteen years that followed shaped her life's work.
